Mitsubishi Motors launches its first ever pickup truck – the Forte, also known as L200 in export markets.

MADE OF HONOUR

How the Mitsubishi Triton revolutionized pick-up trucks for urban users and won Malaysian hearts.

Mitsubishi Pajero becomes a hugely popular large SUV, establishing Mitsubishi Motors as a leading player in 4x4 drivetrain engineering.

L200 Storm becomes first Mitsubishi pick-up truck officially sold in Malaysia. It was a crucial model that accelerated the general public’s acceptance of pick-up trucks as a proper lifestyle vehicle for private use.

Renowned for its almost car-like refinement and handling, the Triton is no softie when the going gets tough, and does not mind proving itself by performing challenging showcases in public.

The Triton proves to be a great lifestyle vehicle, its versatility making it extremely suited to a variety of outdoor activities.

Only the fourth driver to ever win back-to-back Dakar Rallies, Hiroshi Masuoka is regularly called upon to showcase superior handling of Mitsubishi’s rally-bred off-roaders. In Masuoka’s hands, the Triton and its sister SUV, the Pajero Sport, is often shown to possess dynamic capabilities that far exceed its rivals on and off road.

After exactly a decade on sale, the Triton was replaced by an all-new model in 2015. Like its predecessor, the all-new Triton continued to be the segment benchmark in vehicle dynamics and refinement whilst incorporating many new first-in-class features.

The media also had plenty of good things to say about the Triton after experiencing it in the jungles of Sabah.

Barely a year from its launch, the Triton gets a change of heart, receiving Mitsubishi’s brand new 2.4-litre MIVEC Turbodiesel engines, one of the most advanced powertrains in the segment and also among the most powerful, churning out 181PS and 430Nm.

Once again, ever ready to prove itself. The new Triton with its new engine wasted no time to scale the famous Red Peak Challenge.

Never stopping to push the envelope of its abilities, the Triton tried pulling a 31-tonne construction truck, a vehicle weighing 17 times its mass.

With 7 airbags and electronic stability control, the Triton is one of the safest pick-up trucks in the market.

The new and extensively updated Triton makes its first Malaysian appearance at the 2018 KL International Motor Show.

Once again, the new Triton receives positive media feedback.

The 2019 Triton Quest proves that low-riding pick-up trucks need not settle for sparse equipment levels.

Parking a pick-up truck has never been easier with the Triton’s All-Round Monitor giving perfect 360-degree visibility.

One of the toughest mobile 4x4 challenge rigs ever conceived, the Mitsubishi Red Peak Challenge travelled round Malaysia to serve as the ultimate platform to show the Triton’s all-conquering abilities.

Once again, the Triton proved its mettle in the 2016 Borneo Safari.

Not long after its debut, the all-new Triton wasted little time proving its mettle by jumping into the deep end of the pool, participating in the 2015 Borneo Safari, one of the toughest off-road expedition challenges in the world.

Meet Leona Chin behind the wheel of the Triton!

For now though, that growth takes a break.

As the world battles the frightening COVID-19 pandemic, Mitsubishi Triton stays at home in solidarity with all Malaysians.

“When it comes to pickup trucks, I actually prefer to have a slightly better ride comfort, even if I have compromise on a little on handling, and I feel Mitsubishi deployed a good balance with the Triton.”

“Believe it or not, we couldn’t hear the engine noise at all until we pressed the accelerator pedal. That is how quiet the new Triton is.”

- Gokul, Carlist.my, 2017

“Where the Triton holds its own is when you take it off the beaten track. Here, the slow steering is a boon rather than a bother, making it less of a handful over rough terrain, and together with the feelsome rack allowing you to place the vehicle exactly where you want it.”

- Jonathan Lee, paultan.org, 2017

“While there is a strong workhorse element to it with the powerful drivetrain, the Triton VGT (Adventure X) also has its charm as a smooth, comfortable and well-appointed set of wheels.”

- Thomas Huong, Carsifu.my, 2017

“We are completely blown away by the new engine and are convinced that this MIVEC-equipped Triton, sets the new benchmark for refinement in the pick-up truck segment.”
