Despite being a small tropical island, Penang is a cultural paradise. For the first time in its history, however, it is facing an increasingly complicated identity crisis – while it is very much rooted in its traditional culture, many of the younger generation are increasingly seeking differentiation, diversity, and deviation. Some find this disrespectful, but it makes for interesting times, for Penang is now witnessing the foundations of tradition amalgamating with the modernity of new blood.
