Embracing the Dark Side of Luxury

What Makes A Black Badge?

Your “regular” Rolls-Royce is now called a Silver Badge and it is already infinitely customizable to however you want. But, some stuff are reserved only for Black Badge models and cannot be specced into a Silver Badge car.

Cosmetically, a Black Badge car is differentiated by dark chrome treatment in parts where you typically see silver on a Silver Badge car – the Spirit of Ecstasy, for example, is black, as is the trademark bold front grille.

Carbon fibre wheels are another trademark of Black Badge cars, but perhaps the most critical differentiation is under the skin, where the engine, drivetrain, and chassis are all upgraded over the Silver Badge cars for a more dynamic driving experience. As dynamic as a Rolls-Royce can respectably be.

The bad boys of the Rolls-Royce family wear a Black Badge, and they’ve recently been joined by the Cullinan.

As demanding in their lifestyle as they are in their life pursuits, these highly-driven people insist on great substance from any symbol of their lifestyle.

Rolls-Royce Black Badge speaks to the darker, more assertive, confident and demanding aesthetic of these customers. As a truly Bespoke response to their desires, the interplay of brand and customer has had a transformative effect on the appearance and substance of the vehicles that wear the badge.

Sir Malcolm Campbell, Howard Hughes, Keith Moon, Yves Saint Laurent, Muhammed Ali and Charles Rolls to name a few. Young gentlemen in a hurry, driven by their restless spirits to change the world in their own way. Untrammelled by social convention, these disruptors lived life on the edge, believing the ultimate power to be self-empowerment, pushing every boundary to realise their personal vision. Glamorous and daring, they lived fast, worked hard and played hard.

Today’s generation of young, self-empowered, self-confident rule-breakers are just as uncompromising and unapologetic in their choice of living and lifestyle as their predecessors. They follow the road less travelled, live the unconventional life, darkly obsessed by their own pursuits and accomplishments from which they derive a pure adrenaline rush.

Meet the Family

First applied to the Ghost and Wraith in 2016, the Black Badge treatment has since been extended to the Dawn and, most recently, Cullinan as well, which recently arrived in Malaysia, making our country the only one in the region officially offering the full Black Badge family of models.

Black Badge Cullinan is the brand’s most potent SUV – power increasing from 563hp to 593hp, 850Nm to 900Nm (664 lb ft) (Distinctive high gloss Red paint calipers. Transmission, drivetrain, steering, suspension changes)

Black Badge Wraith keeps the same power of 624hp but adds an extra wave of torque (+50Nm) to give it 870Nm. A redesigned air-suspension set up, new drive shafts and uprated 8-speed transmission.

Black Badge Dawn has a power hike from 563hp to 593hp, 820Nm to 840Nm. New exhaust system, (menacing bass baritone), more power, subtle changes to suspension, transmission, throttle, steering and brakes.

Black Badge Ghost sees power increase by 40hp to 603hp and torque to 840Nm compared to current Ghost (820Nm). Upgrades to the 8-speed automatic transmission.
