The First-Ever BMW M GmbH high-performance Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) with electrified drive from BMW M makes its first appearance in Malaysia.

The First-Ever BMW XM marks the dawn of a new era: for the first time since the introduction of the legendary BMW M1 in the 1970s, BMW M GmbH is presenting an independently-developed production model – one that possesses exceptional specifications in every respect. Uncompromising in both performance and impression, the special status of the First-Ever BMW XM is reflected in many individual details, with material quality, workmanship and exclusivity underpinning its exceptional status.
Ahead of its arrival in the Malaysian market, BMW Malaysia premieres the First-Ever BMW XM, the first BMW M GmbH high-performance SAV with electrified drive.
Scheduled to reach Malaysian shores this June 2023, the First-Ever BMW XM features the seamless BMW M HYBRID drive system, coupled with model-specific M suspension technology to create an unmatched, dynamic driving experience. Series production for the First-Ever BMW XM had started last December 2022 at the US BMW Group Spartanburg plant.
Uncompromising and unmistakable.
The First-Ever BMW XM combines the design language of the BMW X models with bold extroversion and uncompromising elegance. This, in combination with the superior performance of a BMW M model, makes for an electrifying appearance. The result is an exciting appearance that goes beyond the traditional codes and conventions. As standard, the First-Ever BMW XM features the M Aerodynamics Package and M High-Gloss Shadow Line, with Extended Contents available for the Shadow Line profile. Other than that, Adaptive LED headlights with High-beam Assistant are also included as standard.
From the front, the First-Ever BMW XM features a large kidney grille with hallmark M horizontal double louvres, furnished with illuminated kidney grille contours. Above it, sits two power domes as elements of the expressively sculpted bonnet. Flanking the grilles are slender, extremely defined headlights, which are split into two separate modules each for daytime running lights and low/high beam.
Exquisite exterior, stunning interior.
The First-Ever BMW XM is not only exquisite on the outside, but is equally stunning on the inside. Besides the interior trim finishers in carbon fibre, the cabin of the SAV is defined by the BMW Curved Display, consisting of an Information Display and a high-resolution touchscreen Control Display. A familiar BMW driver orientation, as well as BMW M-specific displays ensure that the driver has total control of all driving functions and data at any point in time. Visually denoting the M status of the SAV are the M Leather Steering Wheel, M Seat Belts and M Multifunctional Seats.
Besides that, new vintage leather has been utilised on the door panels, as well as the upper sections of the instrument panel – enhanced further by a special finishing process that brings out the natural characteristics of the Walknappa leather to perfection. For greater comfort, active seat ventilation and 4-zone automatic air conditioning control are included. Massage function is also available for the driver and front passenger. On the other hand, ambient light and BMW Iconic Sounds Electric further enhance the atmosphere within the cabin, while in-car entertainment is provided by the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System.
More powerful than ever, with superb agility.
The First-Ever BMW XM is the first BMW M model with a plug-in hybrid drive. The combination of an internal combustion engine – itself delivering 360 kw / 489 hp and a maximum torque of 650 Nm – with an electric motor adds an extra edge to its hallmark M performance while simultaneously increasing efficiency. At its unveiling, the First-Ever BMW XM comes exclusively with the M HYBRID technology, based on an all-new 4.4-litre M TwinPower Turbo V8. At the same time, in conjunction with the flap-controlled sports exhaust system, a striking soundscape that perfectly matches the vehicle’s extroverted character is created.
Total powertrain output of the First-Ever BMW XM is rated at an astounding 480 kW / 653 hp and 800 Nm of torque, delivered via an eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission. Century sprint takes just 4.3 seconds. With the inclusion of Launch Control, maximum accelerated is ensured from a standstill. For the First-Ever BMW XM, top speed is capped at 250 km/h (270 km/h with the M Driver’s package, which is included as standard), while electric top speed is capped at 140 km/h.
In addition to the vehicle’s low centre of gravity, advanced control systems such as the actuator-based wheel slip limitation also contribute to the supremely dynamic handling of the First-Ever BMW XM. Optimum deceleration is ensured by the standard M Sport brakes in Black High-Gloss, with 508 mm compound brake discs on the front axle.
Perfect connectivity, optimal ease of use.
It goes without saying that connectivity goes hand-in-hand with the ultimate driving experience. The First-Ever BMW XM is equipped with the BMW Live Cockpit Professional, featuring a 12.3-inch Information Display, which works in tandem with the 14.9-inch Control Display to ensure uncluttered functionality. In addition, the integrated BMW Head-Up Display offers optimal viewing in the driver’s line of sight, further increasing the vehicle’s ease of use. Together with the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, the M specific BMW Operating System 8 enables intuitive control of vehicle functions using natural speech.
Additionally, the First-Ever BMW XM is also equipped with a range of other digital features and services such as the BMW ID, which ensures personalised settings are loaded as soon as the vehicle is unlocked, as well as BMW Gesture Control, which enhances communication with the car by enabling the use of defined gestures to operate certain functions. Other features include the Connected Package Professional I, Intelligent Emergency Call, Teleservices, Connected Drive Services and Smartphone Integration (Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto).
Exterior colour offerings for the First-Ever BMW XM include Cape York Green, Carbon Black, Marina Bay Blue, Toronto Red, Mineral White, Black Sapphire and Dravit Grey. As for interior upholstery, available offerings include Leather Merino Deep Lagoon with exclusive contents, Leather Merino Silverstone with exclusive contents, Leather Merino Black and Leather Merino Sakhir Orange.

Moving onto the sides, the First-Ever BMW XM’s unmistakable silhouette is characterised by a sloping roofline, which lends it a particularly muscular and commanding appearance. With a distinctly tapered rear, the side windows offer a striking accent that emphasises the vehicle’s dynamic profile. Enhancing the side profile is a nightgold-coloured trim strip running parallel to the window line. 23-inch M Light-Alloy Wheels Star Spoke Style 923 M Bicolour Night Gold Accent (23-inch M Light-Alloy Wheels Star Spoke Style 923 M Bicolour Black Accent for Shadow Line profile) denote its bold and sporty character, while the charger cap signifies its status as a plug-in hybrid SAV.
The rear of the First-Ever BMW XM has been sculpted in a way that presents a particularly powerful look, due in part to its distinctively flared wheel arches. Its width is further emphasised by the slimline and sharply defined L-shaped taillights. As with every BMW M model, the First-Ever BMW XM features two twin tailpipes. However, distinguishing the electrified BMW M SAV is that for the first time, the hexagonal tailpipes have been arranged vertically, creating a unique interpretation of a signature M feature, while underlining the exceptional position of the most powerful BMW M model thus far, within the BMW M model family.
As for dimensions, the First-Ever BMW XM measures 5,110 mm in length, 2,005 mm (2,235 if inclusive of side mirrors) in width and 1,755 mm in height, while its wheelbase measures 3,105 mm. Luggage capacity for the SAV is measured at 527 litres, which is expandable to 1,820 litres.
Moving on towards the rear of the cabin, the M Lounge provides a bold contrast to the cockpit. First-class seating comfort is ensured by a full-width rear seat bench that curves and encloses the passengers. Meanwhile, sophisticated upholstery lends the space an exclusive lounge feel. Finally, Alcantara headliner with its prismatic 3D structure creates a visual highlight that contributes to a unique sense of space, perfectly showcasing workmanship and comfort in the most impressive manner.
As expected from a BMW M vehicle, the electrified SAV – featuring the intelligent M xDrive all-wheel drive system as standard – delivers impressive driving dynamics, optimum handling and maximum traction. In addition to the basic 4WD setting, drivers can select the 4WD Sport mode, which is biased to the rear and makes for superb agility. When driving on loose surfaces, the 4WD Sand mode is available to optimise traction, achieved as the standard M Sport differential ensures variable distribution of drive power between the rear wheels for improved traction and driving stability.
With Adaptive M Suspension Professional as standard, the First-Ever BMW XM is equipped with electronically controlled dampers and features Active Roll Stabilisation that reduces lateral body movements. This creates greater agility and improved cornering behaviour. Besides that, Integral Active Steering is another component of the chassis design – by turning the rear wheels in tandem with the front wheel at higher speeds, greater vehicle stability is ensured. At lower speeds, the rear wheels instead steer in the opposite direction of the front wheels, improving manoeuvrability.
Meanwhile, the high-voltage battery located deep in the vehicle floor enables an all-electric range of up to 88 kilometres. The First-Ever BMW XM can be charged at up to 7.4 kW at an AC charging station. With a battery capacity of 25.7 kWh (net), a complete charge from 0% to 100% takes 4 hours and 15 minutes.
Besides that, with Comfort Access, the First-Ever BMW XM can also recognise the vehicle's key from a distance and unlock its doors automatically, offering greater convenience. Alternatively, drivers can also use their smart device (if compatible) as a contactless key with the BMW Digital Key Plus feature, enabling them to automatically unlock their vehicle door when approaching the vehicle.
In the First-Ever BMW XM, numerous assistance systems come together to support the driver and enhance the driving experience. Equipped as standard is the Driving Assistant Professional, which includes features such as Steering and Lane Control Assistant, Automatic Speed Limit Assist, Lane Change Assistant, Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go, Lane Departure Warning, Front/Rear Crossing Traffic Warning, Emergency Stop Assistant and Evasion Assistant. On the other hand, the standard Parking Assistant Plus includes Reversing Assist, Lateral Parking Aid, Active Park Distance Control, and Surround View system. Other safety features include the Attentiveness Assistant, Acoustic Protection for Pedestrians and Active Protection.
