Cars of Malaysia was created in 2018 with the aim of being a comprehensive buying guide for consumers.
Â
The objective was to create not just a car award, but to aid consumers in their purchasing decisions. Hence, all new cars on sale are considered, and in each category of car, we shortlist the three best choices.
Â
This year, we are giving consumers a voice, and we have invited our readers to vote their selections in a one-month window from 1st to 30th May 2019.
We asked how happy these owners are with their current cars.
Â
On a scale of 1 to 5, owners were asked to rate how happy they are with their current cars.
Â
The findings show a rather high level of satisfaction with their cars among owners.
Â
From our pool of results, we were then able to see the relative levels of satisfaction from owners of different brands.

Diving deeper into the numbers, we were also able to see the actual voting patterns of consumers. By converting the number of votes into a percentage, we can gauge how owners of various brands voted in relation to others as a whole.

On average, more than 80% of respondents rated their happiness levels at 4 or 5 out of 5, and less than 4% expressed genuine unhappiness with their cars with ratings of 1 or 2.

A car launched earlier doesn’t become bad over the turn of a year, and there really isn’t one car that fits all requirements in every segment. These considerations form the bedrock of our evaluation process, and it is why Cars of Malaysia looks at all new cars on sale and three best cars are announced for each category.

We have decided to give our readers their say for this year and hence opened the outcome to a public vote over the period of a month. We segregated cars to 30 categories based on their vehicle type and price positioning. Voters are asked to select the best three cars of each category, and we tally the outcome.

We also asked owners to rate on a scale from 1 to 5 how likely they are to return to the same manufacturer for their next car purchase.
Â
Interestingly, despite most respondents being generally happy with their vehicles, there is a greater proportion expressing a desire to move to another brand with their next purchase.
Â
This is not necessarily an indictment against any particular brand, and can be attributed to people’s general desire to upgrade themselves to more premium products. This theory is supported by Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Volvo having the highest average rating for this question.
